Pickens Conservation District annually sponsors a High School team to compete at the South Carolina Envirothon, a hands-on outdoor competition on aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and a current environmental issue.  Registration deadlines are usually in January for that year's May competition.

The Tri-County Home Educators' team came in 8th place overall in their rookie year of competing, placing 1st in the Wildlife section.  The next year, they took 5th place overall.
