Commissioners' Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of each month

at 8:30am in the Stillwell Conference Room (unless otherwise posted at the office).

 

2012 General Election

One Pickens Soil & Water Conservation District commissioner position will be filled in the 2012 General Election.

Each commissioner candidate wanting his/her name on the ballot must submit to the county election commission a nominating petition with the signatures of 100 qualified electors (registered voters) of the district or 1%, whichever is less. Petitions can be obtained from the Pickens County or South Carolina State Election Commission. The petition must have the "County of Pickens" and "Statement of Purpose" definition written on each page. The "Statement of Purpose" must read: (Candidate’s Name) seeks the Office of Commissioner of the Pickens Soil & Water Conservation District in the November 6, 2012 General Election. It is recommended by the state election commission that the candidate obtain 15-20% more names than is required by law in case some of those who sign the petition are not qualified electors. Once submitted to the county election commission, petitions cannot be returned. A receipt will be provided.

The petition forms along with a Statement of Economic Interest form must be filed with the county and/or state election commission no later than 12:00 noon on July 16, 2012. *

Three Pickens County George’s Creek Watershed District director positions will be filled in the 2012 General Election.

Four Pickens County Oolenoy Watershed District director positions will be filled in the 2012 General Election.

Each director candidate wanting his/her name on the ballot must submit to the county election commission a Statement of Candidacy which can be obtained from the Pickens County or South Carolina State Election Commission.

The Statement of Candidacy form along with a Statement of Economic Interest form must be filed with the county and/or state election commission no later than noon on August 15, 2012. *

* All candidates are required to file a Campaign Disclosure form with the State Ethics Commission no later than 15 days before the General Election. A final Campaign Disclosure form must be submitted to the State Ethics Commission after the General Election unless candidates write "FINAL REPORT" on the first Campaign Disclosure form and there are no additional funds expended.

 

These elections are non-partisan (no party affiliation or primary election required) and are conducted by the county election commission at the same time other county and state officers are elected in the General Election. Conservation district commissioners and watershed district directors are non-salaried officials who are elected to four-year terms. Candidates must be registered voters in the county in which they are seeking office, and watershed directors must also live in the watershed.
